UPDATE: The organizing committee is moving the parade start time to 5 p.m. due to BC Transit conflict on Baker Street.

In case you missed it, Christmas really is just around the corner.

Which is why the Nelson Business Association (NBA), in conjunction with numerous downtown businesses, volunteers and staff at City of Nelson Public Works Department is going to play host to the annual Santa on Baker Parade.

“Complete with Santa sleigh float & reindeer and much, much more the parade is a great way to kick off the holiday season,” said John McCuaig of the organizing committee in a media release.

The date to mark on the calendar is Saturday December 2. At 5:30 p.m. the parade will be leaving the 100 block of Baker Street before making its way to the Hall Street Plaza at the east end of the downtown core.

“Entertainment supplied by the Rhythm Ropers, choirs and Dance Umbrella at Hall Street Plaza as well as snacks and beverages as you wait for Santa to arrive,” McCuaig explains.

“Santa will visit with the kids at Hall Street Plaza.”

This year there is a coloring contest, sponsored by The Nelson Daily and Kootenay Co-op Radio.

“The winner of the contest will be the first in-line to sit on Santa’s knee,” McCuaig said.

To win this amazing gift, children are asked to go to thenelsondaily.com, click on the Santa on Baker ad located on the inside page of the news site and print off your coloring contest sheet and then drop it at Kootenay Co-op Radio at 308A Hall Street by Friday, November 24th.

“It has taken many volunteer hours to put this event on and the Nelson Business Association would like to thank all of those involved in making this such a special evening and kick off to the Holiday Season,” McCuaig said.
