Routine patrol finds couple in possession of controlled substance

A man and woman will appear in court in October to face charges after the pair were found in possession of a controlled substance in downtown Nelson Wednesday evening.

Nelson Police said in a media release Thursday the two were noticed during a routine patrol by officers at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 26).

“Nelson Police officers were patrolling the downtown core and observed two occupants in a vehicle that are well known to police,” the release said.

“Upon further investigation in the downtown laneway, the two occupants were found in possession of a controlled substance.”

NPD said a 51-year-old male and a 38-year-old female were arrested for one count each of possession of a controlled substance-Fentanyl and Methamphetamine.

Further investigation revealed that they are both unlicensed drivers. 

The couple was released on scene on a provincial appearance notice and are scheduled to attend Nelson Provincial Court on October 3, 2017

Man faces mischief, uttering threats charges

Tuesday (July 25) at 11:30 p.m. Nelson Police dispatch received a report of a mischief and threats from a staff member in the downtown core.

NPD said evidence on scene captured the culprit throwing a rock through the front windshield of a vehicle.

“The 24-year-old male who is well known to police was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with Uttering Threats and Mischief under $5000.”

NPD said this particular male has had 129 contacts with the Nelson police dating back to 2014.

The an was released on a Promise to Appear and placed on strict conditions. He is scheduled to attend Nelson Provincial Court on October 3, 2017.
