Rossland house fire last night sends one to hospital, causes over $200,000 damage

A fire in Rossland last night has virtually destroyed a home and sent one person to hospital with fire-related injuries, according to Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue Captain Jason Milne.
Milne said the first 9-1-1 call came in at 5:18 p.m. Thursday night, when a resident of the house realized there was a fire.
“Co. #1 Rossland, Co. #2 Warfield and the duty crew from Co#4 Trail were dispatched to a report of a structure fire in Rossland at 1299 Washington Street,” Milne said. “Crews were on scene within approximately 12 minutes.”
He said it was a two-story building, and the fire was on the top floor, where firefighters managed to contain it, but the main floor sustained smoke and water damage. He said roughly one third of the building was involved by the time fire crews arrived.
“KBRFR had accomplished fire control in approximately 50 minutes of being on scene,” he said, adding the residents were home at the time of the fire.
“Unfortunately, one of the family members suffered smoke and fire-related injuries and was transported to Kottenay Boundary Regional Hospital. The extent of the injuries are unknown to us at this time. The fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time although KBRFR will be investigating the fire today.”
Milne estimated the fire caused in excess of $200,000 damage.
