A routine traffic stop Tuesday by West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit and West Kootenay Traffic Services netted police a large drug seizure said RCMP Sergent Chad Badry in a media release.

Badry said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon on Highway 3B near the Village of Salmo when officers stopped a Honda Accord driven by a 27-year-old male from Red Deer, Alberta.

“An investigation into impaired driving by drug led to (driver) losing his driver’s license for 24 hours,” Badry explained in the media release.

“The investigation also yielded a large drug seizure including over 3800 hits of LSD, 180 hits of MDMA, 10 grams of Psilocybin (magic mushrooms), 16 pounds of marihuana, and 27 grams of Ketamine.”

Badry said the driver also had four capsules of a drug believed to be 2C-B which is another psychedelic drug listed in Schedule III of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The drug is not commonly found in the Kootenays.

Badry said the man was released on a Promise to Appear in Nelson Provincial Court and an Undertaking to abide by conditions related to the offence pending drug analysis and charge approval of six counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking.

“This is an extremely large drug seizure and quite disturbing that these types of drugs in this quantity are travelling in our communities,” Badry said.
