Following this winter’s highly successful series of open houses and stakeholder input meetings, the City of Nelson is providing a final opportunity for residents to provide thoughts and feedback on plans for the future development of the exciting new Railtown District.

Residents are invited to preview the proposed Railtown Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan, this Monday (June 13) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at The Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce.

“This is the final chance to voice your opinions on how Nelson’s newest district is going to grow,” says Mayor Deb Kozak.

“We want to hear your feedback on Railtown’s future vision and its development as a sustainable neighbourhood — it will be unlike any other part of our city, and unique to Nelson. Railtown will further differentiate us from many other small cities in BC and the Canadian West.”

Mayor Kozak explains that the new action plan will outline Railtown’s detailed policy, design and implementation components.

The exciting new district’s final vision will be presented for Council adoption, this fall.

Based on a ten-year outlook, Railtown could create as many as 100 new jobs and see up to 11 acres of light industrial development, 100 residential units and 20,000 square feet of retail space.

The district will include a mix of light industrial, commercial and residential development, bordered by Highway 3A, Cottonwood Falls, Government Road and the CP rail tracks running parallel to the West Arm waterfront.

Seven publicly directed policy documents are being used to guide the Railtown vision — including the Sustainable Waterfront and Downtown Master Plan (SWDMP).
