Report of dynamite in toolbox turns out to be a false alarm for NPD

A toolbox, thought to contain a couple of sticks of dynamite, had Nelson Police on edge after the call was received Friday (December 12) by dispatch.

The report came in from a local charitable organization that had received a donation of a toolbox containing what appeared to be several sticks of dynamite. 

Officers attended and confirmed the sticks were not dynamite, but old road flares that did not pose any danger to the public. 

The Nelson Police Department would like to kindly remind those who donate materials to ensure that no potential threats are included in their donation to avoid future incidents.

Male with mental health issues flees police

Sunday, NPD dispatch detained a male in the area of Vernon and Hendryx Streets for the theft of a baby stroller. 

During the interaction with officers, the male became irate and resisted arrest. 

The male fled from police and after a foot pursuit was apprehended.  

It was determined that the male was known to police and suffers from several mental health issues. 

The male was released from custody and charges are being considered.

Some holiday party-goers get out of hand

The Nelson Police Department received several alcohol related calls for service over the weekend involving unruly behaviour and public intoxication. 

NPD would like to remind those who participate in holiday festivities to plan ahead for celebrations and ensure they have a safe method of arriving at their destinations.
