Saturday is the 11th day of the 11th month of 2017.

Canadians across the country are asked to pause at 11th hour to remember the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives in military service.

Once again many Nelsonites will come together to honour those fallen military people at the Remembrance Day Ceremonies.

The day starts at 8 a.m. with a Service at the Nelson Cemetary.

The ceremony shifts to downtown Nelson for Remembrance Day Service at the Nelson Cenotaph in the City Hall Courtyard.

Nelsonites will join the rest of Canada paying tribute with two minutes of silence to the country’s fallen soldiers from the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Afghanistan conflict and peacekeeping missions.

The public attending the ceremonies is asked to show up early, around 10:15 a.m. for the service that begins at 10:45 a.m. and the Last Post and one minute of silence at 11 a.m.

The Muster for Parade is set for 10:30 a.m.

Several dignitaries are scheduled to speak, including Mayor Deb Kozak, Bill Andreaschuk for the Royal Canadian Legion, Reverend Jeff Donnelly from St. Saviours Church, Doug Wood for Kootenay Columbia MP Wayne Stetski and 98-year-old WWII veteran Lionel Binnet reciting In Flanders Fields.

After the service, everyone (all ages) are welcome back to the Legion on Stanley Street where there will be free hot chocolate and hot dogs for the kids.

For the adults there will be hot buttered rum, sandwiches and snacks.

The Legion invites the community to come share in this day with glorious food, camaraderie, sharing of stories and remembrance.
