RDCK extends State of Local Emergency for Zwicky Road residents

A handful of residents in Kaslo are going to need to wait at least another week before returning home after the Regional District of Central Kootenay decided to extend its State of Local Emergency for another week.

In a media release Sunday, the RDCK said its extending the State of Local Emergency until May 1st for six homes outside the North Kootenay Village.

“After further monitoring and assessment of the landslide above Zwicky Road just outside of Kaslo, the Regional District of Central Kootenay is extending the State of Local Emergency for another week until May 1st,” the release said.

“The evacuation order for the six homes located beneath the landslide will also remain in place for another week as geotechnical engineers continue to monitor the landslide.”

The RDCK said its still reviewing the report received from geotechnical engineers on Thursday April 20th and more information regarding the report will be made available at the public meeting Monday, April 24th at 6 p.m.

Originally, the RDCK issued an Evacuation Order for 47 homes in the Zwicky Road area of Kaslo last week.

The public meeting will be held at the Kaslo Royal Canadian Legion Hall, located at 403 5th Street in Kaslo.
