RDCK directors approve Hannon as Balfour/Harrop Fire Chief during July Board Meeting

Thursday’s monthly meeting of the Regional District of Central Kootenay was a light affair as board members gave approval to a Community Wildfire Protection Plan Grant, a new roof for the Riondel Community Centre Auditorium as well as approving Nora Hannon as the Fire Chief of the Balfour Harrop Volunteer Fire Department.

A highlight package of the July meeting includes:

  • Community Wildfire Protection Plan Grant: The RDCK will receive grant funding from the Local Government Program Services for the Community Wildfire Protection Plan for the following Areas: Area K and Nakusp — $30,001.08 
  • Environmental Consulting Services for the HB Tailing Storage Facility: The Board has awarded the HB Tailing Storage Facility and Downstream Channel Assessment to SLR Consulting in the amount of $20,600.  
  • Riondel Commission of Management: The Board has awarded the contract to Heritage Roofing in the amount of $40,869for roof replacement and wall repair to the Riondel Community Centre Auditorium.  
  • Additions to Regional Parks: The Board approved the addition of Procter Wharf to Sunshine Bay Regional Park and 3.4 hectares of land to Taghum Beach Regional Park to be used as park lands.
  • SOFI Report: The RDCK has released its Statement of Financial Information for the year ended in December 31, 2016. To view SOFI, please visit www.rdck.ca
  • Emergency Social Services – City of Castlegar: The Board will be entering into an agreement with the City of Castlegar to bring the city on as a partner with Emergency Social Services/Red Cross. 
  • Operational Fuels Treatment Tender Awards: The Board awarded seven contracts to proponents throughout the region for the Operational Fuel Treatment Projects to reduce risk of wildfire. 
  • Balfour Harrop Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Chief: The Board appointed Acting Fire Chief Nora Hannon as the Fire Chief of the Balfour Harrop Volunteer Fire Department.
