Slocan Lake RCMP continue to investigate a vehicle theft in the Rosebery area north of New Denver police said in a media release Monday.

Police said the investigation continues after Slocan Lake RCMP responded to a residence in the area of Rosebery for a report of a theft of vehicle in progress.

“At least two unidentified suspects entered the residential area in a lifted black diesel crew cab Ford F350 with a large brushed aluminum bumper, and allegedly gained access to white Ford F350 parked at a residence,” RCMP said in the media release.

“The owners of the vehicle were alerted and set out to intervene in the theft.”

Police said the suspects rammed the complainant’s vehicle they had blocked in and fled the area leaving the white Ford F350 they had attempted to steal behind.

Police said the suspect’s black Ford F350, which suffered damage to the passenger side front end, fled on Highway 6.

RCMP said the black Ford F350, later located abandoned in the parking lot of the Leland Hotel in Nakusp on February 11, 2020, had been reported stolen out of Alberta.

“Police believe the suspects were driving through the area looking for opportune vehicles that may have been left insecure,” said Cst. Terry Smith of the Slocan Lake RCMP in the media release.

“Slocan Lake and Nakusp RCMP wish to remind residents to secure their property by ensuring their vehicles and homes are locked.

“RCMP is also requesting that the public report suspicious activities to the police in effort to help stop property crimes.”

Police said the ongoing investigation is being led Slocan Lake RCMP.

“The Slocan Lake and Nakusp RCMP are looking for any witnesses that may have observed a truck matching the description of the black Ford F350 in the area and the occupants associated,” police said.
