RCMP is asking travelers and area users to be on the lookout for Deirdre, a seven-month-old black Mastiff dog lost following a single vehicle roll over collision on Wednesday, near Revelstoke.

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a media release the dog was a passenger in a vehicle involved in the accident.

The accident happened at approximately 1:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Revelstoke Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Health Services, South East District Traffic Services and Revelstoke RCMP responded to the crash, 5 km east of Revelstoke, BC near the Trans-Canada Highway.

"A witness who was following the Dodge Caravan from Alberta, observed the driver lose control, causing the vehicle to hit the ditch and subsequently roll-over," Moskaluk said.

"The driver, a 26-year-old male from Alberta was airlifted to Kamloops Hospital in serious condition."

Moskaluk said Revelstoke RCMP are currently still investigating the cause of this crash. The Trans-Canada Highway was closed for approximately 20 minutes, and is opened in both directions at this time.

"Revelstoke RCMP recently learned that a seven month-old black Mastiff dog, wearing a red collar, who goes by the name of "Deirdre" would have been in the car at the time of the crash," Moskaluk said.

"It is believed that the dog kennel opened and "Deirdre" ran from the vehicle. Her owner remains in hospital and Deirdre is still unaccounted for."

Deirdre is described as:

  •  medium sized mastiff with uncropped ears
  • black with white chest and toe tip markings
  • wearing a red collar
  • she is friendly

A search of the area continues, but so far Deirdre has not been located. If you happen to see or locate Deirdre, she is a friendly dog and you are asked to please contact the Revelstoke RCMP at 250-837-5255.
