RCMP investigating suspicious death near Vallican

The Southeast District RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment are now investigating the sudden death of the 47-year-old man RCMP said in a media release Thursday.

RCMP said Tuesday (October 8) at approximately 10 a.m., Nelson RCMP received a call of a deceased person in the Vallican area, 50 kilometers northwest of Nelson.

RCMP officers responded to the call and found a deceased male on private property.

“Investigators are treating the death, which appears to have occurred Tuesday October 8th, as suspicious at this time,” the RCMP release said.

“An autopsy is expected to be conducted next week.”

RCMP said the BC Coroners Service has been contacted and is in the early stages of its fact-finding investigation.

Police said the Coroners Service investigates all sudden, unexpected and/or unnatural deaths in the province to determine who died, how, where, when and by what means.

The media release concluded by saying the RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are not offering any further information about this investigation.
