The Joint Castlegar/Trail RCMP Crime Reduction Unit with assistance from the Salmo RCMP have been conducting an ongoing investigation into a 39-year-old Salmo woman who was believed to be transporting controlled substances between Salmo, Castlegar and Trail.

On Nov. 6, 2019, a traffic stop was initiated on the 900 block of Columbia Avenue in Castlegar by CRU, Salmo and Castlegar RCMP members. The 39-year-old Salmo woman was arrested and her vehicle was searched. Police located almost two ounces of what is believed to be methamphetamine, along with some Canadian currency.

A second vehicle that was associated to the woman was stopped by CRU and uniformed Castlegar members. A Castlegar man in his 30s was arrested on scene as he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. The man and woman were later released that evening on a Promise to Appear/Undertaking with a court date set for Feb. 12, 2020, at the Castlegar Court House.

“Our Crime Reduction Unit officers are routinely working with other Detachments to stop this kind of drug activity in our communities. In this instance, our officers used their targeted knowledge of a possible drug trafficker to ensure that this operation was disrupted,” said A/Sgt Brett Turner.

If anyone has information on this type of activity, they are encouraged to call their local police department or BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
