RCMP confirm one person seriously injured following avalanche near Golden

RCMP said one person was transported to hospital after an avalanche was triggered near Hospital Creek outside of Golden Friday.
Police said on February 9 just before 4 p.m., the Golden-Field RCMP were notified that an avalanche had been triggered near Hospital Creek.
“One person was seriously injured and has been transported by Air Ambulance to a hospital in Calgary,” RCMP said.
“Back country enthusiasts, be it mechanized or non-mechanized users, are asked to be aware of avalanche and weather condition for their area and to ensure that they check current avalanche conditions at avalanche.ca prior to participating in these outdoor activities,” RCMP added.
Prior to the weekend, there was a Special Public Avalanche Warning issued by Avalanche Canada.
The Special Public Avalanche Warning was for recreational backcountry users, in effect immediately until the end of the day Monday, February 12.
The warning applies to the following regions: Lizard Range & Flathead, South Rockies, Purcells, Kootenay Boundary, South & North Columbia, Cariboos, and North Rockies.

In January, a RCMP said a 36-year-old man from Alberta died in an avalanche.
Elk Valley RCMP and Fernie Search and Rescue were notified of a fatal avalanche January that occurred in the Lizard Mountain range east of Fernie, recovering the body of the male from Calgary, Alberta.
