The manhunt for armed robbery suspect Ronald Teneycke has ended.

Teneycke was apprehended by police in an orchard in Cawston Thursday morning (July 23).

The arrest unfolded when an RCMP officer involved in the search spotted a vehicle similar to the one stolen by Teneycke Wednesday in Cawston, a small farming village near Keremeos in the Okanagan Valley.

RCMP said as the officer got closer he was able to confirm Teneycke was alone in the vehicle.

“When Teneycke saw the officer he accelerated in an attempt to flee. Teneycke drove to Fairview-Cawston Road and into the rural mountain pass that leads to Oliver,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dave Tyreman.

RCMP Air Services was involved in the search and followed Teneycke up Fairview-Cawston Road where he was intercepted by the RCMP Emergency Response team.

“Teneycke did not stop but instead turned around and drove back toward Cawston,” said Tyreman.

“Teneycke was pursued by the Emergency Response team to Lowe Drive in Cawston and then into an orchard where he was ultimately apprehended.”

“We are thankful the arrest was made without any injuries to our officers, the general public, or Teneycke,” he added.

Teneycke has been transported to a neighbouring Detachment where he is expected to appear in Penticton Provincial Court sometime Friday.

RCMP resources from Oliver, Osoyoos, Penticton, Keremeos as well as the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Services Dogs and the Federal and Serious Organized Crime Section were utilized in the search and successful apprehension of Teneycke.

“Thank-you to the general public for their patience while we attended to this dynamic situation as well as those from the public that provided updated sightings of Teneycke throughout the area,” Tyreman said.

Police continue to search for armed robbery suspect, Ronald Teneycke

RCMP got a tip in the search for armed robbery suspect Ronald Teneycke when Teneycke’s vehicle was located Wednesday morning on a local Forest Service Road in a rural area of Oliver.

Police believe the suspect is still in the immediate area, since it is alleged that Teneycke had committed an Armed Robbery just days earlier in Oliver.

“Police believe him to be armed and dangerous so they called in the South East District Emergency Response Team to assist in a ground search for him,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dave Tyreman.

Police said around 11:30 a.m., the Oliver RCMP learned that an individual picked up whom they thought was a hitch-hiker on the Baldy Mountain Forest Service Road.

“The individual allegedly assaulted the driver with a weapon and stole the owners 1999 White ¾ ton GMC pick-up bearing BC licence plate 7621 GG with “Okanagan Rustic Furniture” written across the back window,” Tyreman said.

Anyone seeing this vehicle, should not approach it but call 9-1-1 immediately.

Police said Teneycke is believed to be the suspect and considered to be extremely dangerous and may be armed.
