Nelson Mayor Deb Kozak says it’s time to party.

Well, almost.

Kozak is joining hands with the Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce to invite the public to the Stores To Shores Business Appreciation Celebration, Friday (August 7) from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Hall Street Plaza, below the new social steps and public patio.

The Celebration comes after two months of construction, a major phase of the Stores to Shores project, in the 400 and 500 blocks of Hall Street.

“The Stores to Shores project is a brand new chapter in the City’s history and it’s the businesses along Hall and the eastern end of Baker and Vernon Streets that have helped us write it,” Kozak said in a media release.

“They’ve stuck it out through heat, dust, mud and some pretty daunting dips in traffic over the past 10 weeks.”

Kozak says the project is on track to wrap up in the first week of October.

The last third of the job will see a tremendous amount of work completed on the 300 block of Hall.

Traffic should be back to normal on the thoroughfare by the third week in September.

“There’s no question the businesses in that end of downtown have been impacted by the Stores to Shores revitalization,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tom Thomson explains.

“But now that the 400 and 500 blocks are starting to shape up so nicely, business owners can expect   some sincerely positive outcomes.”

“We really appreciate what they and their staff have persevered through,” Thomson added.

Kozak and Thomson want to invite the general public into the downtown core to see, and enjoy, a sampling of the business in the Hall Street neighbourhood as well as see the new and improved street.

Kozak says the project is on track to wrap up in the first week of October. The last third of the job will see a tremendous amount of work completed on the 300 block of Hall.

Traffic should be back to normal on the thoroughfare by the third week in September.

During that time, workers will finish up the work on the 400 and 500 blocks, with landscaping and plantings along with custom light standards, railings, benches, waste receptacles, bike racks, and a water fountain at the corner of Hall and Baker.
