Preney claims three medals to lead host club at Nelson Sprints

Dominique Preney won three medals for the host club at the Nelson Sprints Rowing Regatta Saturday on Kootenay Lake.

Preney, a veteran of the water sport, won two gold and silver for the Nelson Rowing Club during the single-day event.

Preney started the day out winning gold in the men’s single.

He then teamed up with Kim Shea to capture the silver medal in the mixed doubles event before combining forces with Aaron Beck, Steve Knight and Jim Grant to win the gold in the men’s quad.

Grant and Sophie DePauw each won two medals.

Grant added his second, silver, teaming up with Steve Knight, Petra Kromer and Sophie DePauw in the mixed quad.

DePauw, and Linda O’Gorman of Vernon, finished third in women’s doubles.

The annual Nelson Sprints attracted rowers from Vernon, Kelowna, Shuswap, Cranbrook, Nickomekl, Coeur d’Alene and host Nelson Rowing Club.

A total of 53 rowers competed in 17 events, starting on Kootenay Lake near the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort and finishing at Lakeside Rotary Park.
