RCMP in 100 Mile House used a spike belt to arrest a suspect wanted on an attempted murder charge Saturday (May 31).

100 Mile House RCMP responded to a complaint of a man in distress in the 7000 block of 93 Mile Loop Rd at 8:25 a.m.

Officers attended and located a 39-year-old man who had been shot. He was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. While on scene a 59-year-old man was identified as the suspect.

Officers attended the Evergreen Drive area to affect the arrest of the suspect. Upon attendance, officers confirmed the man’s presence but set up containment on the residence as they believed him to be armed.

Additional resources were immediately requested to assist. Prior to additional officer’s arriving, the suspect fled the residence in a vehicle.

Upon the suspect fleeing, officers were able to effectively deploy a spike belt. The suspect failed to stop for police even after being spike belted.

Even with four flat tires and driving on the rims, the suspect still failed to stop for police.

Officers continued to pursue the suspect and fearing that he was making his way toward a more populated area and increasing the risk to Public Safety, Officers forced the suspect vehicle off the road at a low rate of speed, then boxed it in which enabled police to take the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect was taken before a justice of the peace where RCMP are recommending charges of: Attempt Murder, Assault, Criminal Harassment, Use Firearm in commission of offence, Utter Threats, Possession of a prohibited weapon and various other charges.
