The Nelson Peewee Leafs tuned up for the playoffs by winning two of three games in Rep Minor Hockey play during the weekend.

The Reps won 4-3 in Creston Saturday and 7-1 Sunday in Grand Forks against the Bruins. Nelson opened the weekend by dropping a 6-2 loss to Castlegar.

Sunday against the Bruins Matthew Brind’Amour scored twice to lead the Reps to the lopsided victory.

Taylor Cooper, Everett Hicks, Logan Mengler, Jayden Maida and Bryce Twible also scored for Nelson.

Saturday, Logan Mengler scored the winner to lead Nelson to the narrow win over Creston. Hicks, Maida and Brind’Amour also scored for Nelson.

Friday, rival Castlegar scored the hard-fought victory over Nelson.
Everett Hicks, with an assist to Justin Podgorenko and Merissa Dawson, and Aigne McGeady-Bruce, scored for the Leafs.

Ben Woodward and Everett Hicks assisted the goal by McGeady-Bruce.

The Reps now play host to Rossland/Trail in the first game of the West Kootenay Minor Hockey Peewee Rep playoff series. Game time is Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in the NDCC Arena.

Game two is February 19 in Trail at 4 p.m.

The first team-to-four-points win the right to represent the zone at the B.C. Tier 11 Minor Hockey playoffs in March.
