Selkirk Students Deserve Fair, Transparent and Democratic Referendum

Letters to the Editor

LETTER: Allegations of police abuse at G20

See video

Dear editor,

My name is Lesley Tarasoff and I grew up in the Slocan Valley, BC but now I live in Toronto, ON. This weekend, as you are aware, the G8 and G20 summits took place in Huntsville and Toronto. I am sure you saw the mainstream media's interpretation of the summits and what was happening on the streets. However, a lot was not reported and needs to be made public.

LETTER: Let’s continue to strive for gold...in health care

LETTER: Let’s continue to strive for gold...in health care

Dear editor,

We all witnessed how our Olympic athletes inspired and unified our nation. Whether they won or not, their stories touched our hearts and we applauded their efforts. We are writing in response to Interior Health’s proposed cuts to our Hospital. Instead of going for gold in our Health Care system it seems we allow the towel to be thrown in, apparently bowing to the almighty Dollar.

in

Dear editor,

I am taking the CCSW (Classroom and Community Support Worker) program at
Selkirk College. I am at the end of the fall semester and it was a wild and
crazy time, so much coming at you so fast, but have truly enjoyed and learned
so much.

LETTER: Restorative justice as a means to effect constructive change

in

Dear Editor,

November 15 to 22 is Restorative Justice Week.

Restorative Justice is justice that attempts to repair the damage done when a crime is committed.

Often when we think of justice, it is retributive justice, justice that demands that a penalty be paid for harm that is done. Retributive justice is based on the concept of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. It involves punishment and retribution.

Letter: youth workers lauded

in

Dear Editor,

The Health and Human Services department at Selkirk College would like to take this opportunity to honour “Thank a Youth Worker Day”, which occurs on Nov. 5, and thank the professionals who work with youth and families in our communities.

You may ask, “What is a youth worker?” Well, youth workers are professionals who focus on infants, children and adolescents, with both normal and special needs, within the context of their families as well as our communities.

BRENDA GILL: Elderberry Harvest

BRENDA GILL: Elderberry Harvest

Now that you’re into the swing of putting away berries and other fruit for the winter, it’s time to start thinking about making your elderberry tincture. Elderberry trees are thin, mid-sized trees that look almost like tall bushes that branch out with narrow, long leaves and have an umbrella-like berry formation at the end of the branches. The berries are purply blue and quite small-about the size of peppercorns.
