OHA sweep Kootenay Cats in a pair of close exhibition games

The Okanagan Hockey Association scored a pair of narrow wins over the Kootenay Wildcats in Female AAA Hockey Exhibition play this past weekend at the NDCC Arena.
Sunday, Madison McIntosh scored the winner with just over three minutes remaining in the game to give the visitors from Penticton a 4-3 victory.
Saturday, OHA scored two third period goals to edge the Cats 3-1.
“Both games were very spirited, high temp affairs,” said Kootenay coach Mario DiBella, taking over the coaching duties from former skipper Paul Matteucci.
“It was our tryout weekend and true to Kootenay form all 20 players that showed up made the team.”
After trailing 1-0 after one frame Sunday, Kootenay scored three times in the second period to take a 3-2 advantage after 40 minutes.
Daley Oddy, Shea Weighill and Aimee DiBella scored for Kootenay.
However, in the third Christine Crawford and McIntosh scored to give OHA the victory.
Saturday, Zoe Battie and Alexa Ranahan, the latter with just 21 second remaining in the game, scored in the third to snap a 1-1 tie.
Former Kootenay Wildcat Carling Chown, who decided to attend the Okanagan Hockey Academy this season, had given the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Brianne Burns took the loss in goal for Kootenay Saturday while Kayla Keraiff was between the pipes Sunday.

and Daley Oddy of the Cats are preparing for the final camp of the B.C. Hockey U17 Girl’s squad September 23-26 at the University of B.C. The pair is part of 27 players attempting to make the squad during a mini-tournament involving UBC Thunderbirds, University of Toronto and Carleton University. Team B.C. coaches will be looking to cut the roster to six defenceman, 12 forwards and two netminders. Ella Matteucci, who is attending Notre Dame in Saskatchewan, is the other member of the 2009 Wildcats in the hunt to make the Team B.C. roster. . . .Two ex-players knowing what the DiBella, Matteucci and Oddy are experiencing are OHA coaches Gina Kingbury and Rebecca Russell. Both coaches are graduates of the Canadian National and Olympic Women’s teams.
