Nelson Police Department welcomed its newest officer Thursday during a ceremony at the Nelson Courthouse.

L.V. Rogers graduate Lauren Mirva was sworn in by Judicial Justice Laurie Langford before local officers, Nelson City Councilors and family this morning.

Constable Mirva is now one of three female officers with the Nelson Police Department.

Mirva attended school in Nelson, graduating from LVR where the avid athlete was awarded the top female athlete award for her Grade 12 year.

Constable Mirva has a degree in Criminology from Mount Royal University and has worked as a security officer and seasonal forest firefighter.

Mirva, who enjoys snowboarding, tennis and outdoor activities, including hiking and biking, is excited to begin her new career in law enforcement.

Mirva follows a family tradition in law enforcement as her father, Dennis, is a retired member of the RCMP who is presently serving as a deputy sheriff in Nelson and sister Robyn is a deputy sheriff in Alberta.

Mirva begins training September 19, 2016 at the Justice Institute of BC.
