The mural took a few days to grace the wall of Nelson City Hall, and a lot more time to create, but the finished product is now been set in place above the entrance of the Ward Street building.
Artist Tyler Toews mural, 'Heart of the Community' is now on full display on the side of City Hall. Toews has created a visually stunning depiction of Nelson, with the focal point of the mural being a large 3-dimensional heart made of many unique, interlocking puzzle pieces.
This image symbolizes the many elements that make up our diverse community and how well we work together and the heart also signifies the resiliency of Nelson during these challenging times.
Part of the City’s economic stimulus program includes moving forward with shovel-ready projects such as the 'Heart of the Community' mural.
The grant funding for this mural was secured prior to COVID-19 and the City continues to fund organizations that seek grants and support our community, including local artists such as Tyler.
There is a large courtyard outside of City Hall, so we encourage you to come to see the mural for yourself while respecting social distancing with others.
The mural is a group project by Columbia Basin Trust, City of Nelson, the selection jury, Tyler Toews, Sydney Black and the Nelson & District Arts Council.
