Northern Avalance sweep Kootenay Wildcats in weekend series

The Kootenay Wildcats struggle on the BC Hockey Female AAA League circuit continued as the squad dropped a three-game series to the Northern Cougars this past weekend in Nelson.

Kootenay lost 9-2 and 5-1 Saturday during games at the Civic Centre before dropping a 4-1 decision Sunday.

During the opener, the Cats trailed 2-0 after one period and 4-0 following 40 minutes before scoring twice in the third period.

Affiliate player Annah Setter of Golden and Kendra Waterstreet of Fruitvale scored for Kootenay.

Saturday afternoon the Cougars scored two goals four minutes into the game en route to the win.

Allissa Marchand of Canal Flats scored the lone Kootenay goal.

Sunday, Northern Cougars built a 4-1 lead after two periods before Maddie Vockeroth-Fisher of Rossland scored for Kootenay.

Catalina Hartland of Kaslo was in goal for Kootenay.

Kootenay, winless on the season, returns to action January 30 in Coquitlam against West Coast Avalanche.
