The Nelson Nordic Ski Club will not be left out standing in the cold any longer after the Nelson and District Credit Union came through in spades with a $2,000 grant.

With the donation the club purchased a new satellite phone for midnight groomers of the local nordic ski club. Currently groomers blaze trails from up to seven kilometres from the nearest road. The grooming is usually done at night when conditions are best.

The new cell phone is a significant improvement in emergency preparedness for grooming staff. Now, if an accident happens, staff will be able to call for assistance courtesy of NDCU.

The Nelson Nordic Ski Club is located south of Nelson near Apex. The club has lights for night skiing and numerous trails for daytime runs through the wilderness.

The Nelson and District Credit Union is located on Vernon Street across from the Post Office. The NDCU, with branches in Rossland and on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake, is a proud supporter of local organizations in and around the West Kootenay region.
