Two people were taken to Kootenay Lake Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a truck accident Saturday on Giveout Creek Road south of Nelson.

Nelson Fire Rescue Michael Daloise said in a media release firefighters were called to an accident near the one kilometer road marker on Giveout Creek Forestry Road at approximately 5:25 p.m. Saturday (September 3).

A Ford pickup truck ended up down a steep bank.

The entrance to Giveout Creek Road is few kilometers south of Nelson on Highway 6.

“Upon arrival of the first crew, both occupants of the vehicle had made their way up the steep bank and appeared to have non-life threatening injuries,” Daloise explained.

“EHS was on scene as well as RCMP and the Nelson Police Department,” Daloise added.

“Fire department members assessed the scene for hazards and assisted with patient care.”

Daloise said both duty members responded immediately with two additional members getting called out from home.

“Once patients were en route to Kootenay Lake Hospital Western Auto Wreckers removed the vehicle,” Daloise said.

“Nelson Fire Rescue stood by with a fire engine to ensure they would be ready to extinguish any fire in the unlikely event something started while pulling the vehicle over the rocks.”

Daloise said one fire engine and one utility vehicle were used.

He added no responder injuries were reported as a result of this incident.  The cause of the accident is under investigation by the RCMP.
