No one injured in Blewett Mobile Home Fire

No one was hurt after fire started in a mobile home in Blewett Wednesday morning said Nelson Fire Rescue in a media release.
A total of 12 firefighters responded to the call at 10:56 a.m. Wednesday.
Nelson Fire Rescue said the report came in to the station of a mobile home on fire in the Blewett contract area.
“The duty shift, one Captain and one Firefighter, responded in Engine 2 immediately and were backed up by six off-duty Career Firefighters, and four Auxiliary Firefighters,” said the Nelson Fire Rescue release.
“Upon arrival, significant smoke was showing from the interior of the home and the home owner confirmed that there were no occupants or pets remaining inside.”
Nelson Fire Rescue said due to there being no fire hydrants in the area, a request for mutual aid Water Tender support was made to both the Blewett and Beasley Fire Departments.
Nelson Hydro was also advised to attend to ensure the power supply was safely disconnected from the home as well BC Ambulance Service was dispatched to provide immediate medical aid should it be required.
“Once adequate resources were on scene, the crews performed an offensive interior attack, confining the fire to the room of origin and an adjacent bedroom,” the release said.
“There was extensive smoke damage to the entire home.”
As well as the fire crews, two fire engines, one tender truck and two utility vehicles responded.
Nelson Fire Rescue said there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident with damage is estimated at $30,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“Though the cause of the fire is still under investigation, it is always fair to issue a general fire safety warning at this time of year,” Nelson Fire Rescue said.
“Never leave candles unattended and be careful with auxiliary heating units.”
