When New Riders of the Purple Sage arrive in Nelson for two back-to-back concerts this weekend, they’ll deliver more than just hours of live music — the country-rock band will also leave behind a Rex Foundation grant for Kootenay Co-op Radio.

Rex Foundation is charitable organization founded in 1983 by members of the Grateful Dead, with the mission of supporting creative endeavours and grassroots community actions.

New Riders of the Purple Sage, originally a Grateful Dead side-project, is among numerous bands that continue to support Rex through their music.

For their Nelson concerts, New Riders of the Purple Sage will donate $1.50 from every ticket sold to Rex.

There will also be a silent auction featuring Grateful Dead memorabilia available to bid on an hour before each show, and full proceeds from items sold will also be added to their donation.

Money raised for Rex during the Nelson events will be turned into a grant for Kootenay Co-op Radio.

Don’t miss New Riders of the Purple Sage live at the Capitol Theatre on November 21 and 22. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The band will play two sets, beginning at 8 p.m. sharp. This is an all-ages, general admission concert. Tickets are $39.50 + fees, available at the Capitol Theatre box office (421 Victoria Street), online at capitoltheatre.bc.ca, by phone at 250-352-6363.

Tickets also available at Eclectic Circus (460 Ward Street).
