The Nelson Neptunes swim club is back in business.

After spending the entire 2013 season on the sidelines due to the closure of the Nelson and District Aquatic Centre, the Neptunes are happy to report the club is up and running, beginning May 5 with the first of pre-season training.

Along with a new season is a new coaching tandem of Acadia University varsity swimmer Cynthia Pfeiffer, and Neptune grad and Queen’s University swimmer Rebecca Afford at the helm.

Pfeiffer assumes the head coaching position while Afford is the assistant.

Despite swimming competitively on the other side of Canada, both coaches have deep roots in the BC Summer Swim Association with Pfeiffer swimming with the Revelstoke Aquaducks for 14 years and head coach of the Golden Dolphins last year.

Afford, 21, has been a Nelson Neptune since she was five years old as both a swimmer and then coach.

“The combined swimming and coaching experience of both coaches should make for a fun, enthusiastic, and successful season,” said a Neptune spokesperson.

Registration is now open and filling fast. Training starts the first full week of May with the season opening meet set for May 31 in the Heritage City at the NDCC pool.

For more information on the team contact the Neptune website.
