This is the weekend Pat Price has been waiting for for a long time.

Friday, in Penticton, the Nelson native and Minor Hockey grad, will be inducted into the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame.

“This is absolutely fantastic,” Price said moments after being recognized during the Hall of Fame presser earlier this year.

“It’s always something you aspire to be recognized and to be selected to a Hall of Fame you can’t ask for anything more than that.”

Price, joined by Vancouver Canuck great Kirk McLean and hockey executive Bill Ennos, a former UBC Thunderbird and Vancouver Nat junior, was standout Junior defenseman with Saskatoon Blades where he recorded 147 points in his final junior season and was selected 11th in the 1975 Amateur Draft and First Overall in the WHA Draft.

He opted to sign with the WHA Vancouver Blazers for the biggest rookie contract in professional hockey at that time at $1.3 million over five seasons. Price later signed with the NHL Islanders.

He also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburg Penguins, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers and Minnesota, played in 726 NHL games.

The 2003-04 Memorial Cup champion Kelowna Rockets, led by Shea Weber, will be inducted to the BC Hockey Hall in the team category.

Price is the fourth person from the Nelson area to be selected to the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame, joining ex-NHLers Danny Gare and Greg Adams as well former hockey coach Ernie Gare Sr.
