Nelsonites join in to help save the Earth on Earth Day 2015

The West Kootenay EcoSociety’s Earth Day Fair concluded Earth Day celebrations in Nelson Wednesday in the 400 Block of Baker Street.
Local businesses, including David Berringer and his Elf, Megan Deas, environmental services coordinator at the Regional District of Central Kootenay and Nelson Hydro, showcased their energy-saving contributions on the annual Earth Day event.
The day started off with West Kootenay Transit offering free rides all day on local buses.
Partners in West Kootenay Transit include Regional District of Central Kootenay, Regional District of Kootenay Boundary and BC Transit which encompass the boundaries of Kaslo to Rossland and all points in between.
The public also had a chance to enter the City of Nelson Pledge Day for the chance to choose a registered non-profit society or charity of their choice to received $1,000 from Nelson Hydro.
The first Earth Day happened on April 22, 1970 when more than 20 million people from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement.
More than 1 Billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
