More than three decades after Terry Fox dipped his foot into the Atlantic Ocean to begin the Marathon of Hope 184 runners, bikers and walkers took to Lakeside Rotary Park for the annual Nelson Terry Fox Run.

Pat Gibson of the Kootenay Rhythm Dragons Dragonboat organizing team led a speaker’s list that included Nelson Mayor Deb Kozak and three-time cancer survivor Sarah Quayle.

“I am a three-time cancer survivour and my story has spanned 25 years and two continents so far,” Quayle told the crowd.

“I believe fundamentally that all cancer research is pioneering to bring forward one day when all cancers are cured,” Quayle told the crowd.

To date the Nelson Terry Fox Run raised $10,313.76 — the most funds in the past 10 years.

Politics founds its way into the 35th anniversary of the run as the Conservative Party, if re-elected would commit up to $35 million to match donations raised in this year’s Terry Fox Run.

Federal Industry Minister James Moore was in Port Moody today to make the announcement.
