Nelson Youth Theatre presents the foolish Shake-spearean comedy 12th Night, Friday, August 22nd in Gyro Park’s “Ye Olde Stone Quarry”. The cast of around 15 local actors aged eight to sixteen has been rehearsing under the leaves since early August in order to bring this funny, insightful play to life.

Shipwrecked in the foreign land of Illyria and disguised as a man, Viola falls in
love with the Duke who yearns for a Countess. A wise fool, a boisterous rogue, an incompetent knight, a mischievous maid, an ambitious steward, a pair of loyal captains and a twin surprise are featured in this colourful cast of characters played by Zooey, Riley, Zorn, Relmu, Sylvia, Emily, Margaret, Eirin, Linn, Sophie, Sabien, Evan, Tucker, Sara, Lucy, and Veronica.

Presented as part of the Outskirts Theatre Festival, 12th Night is the ‘VIth Bard in the Bush Shake-speare’ show for Nelson Youth Theatre since 2009’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, followed by As You Like It, The Tempest, Romeo & Juliet and last summer’s Much Ado About Nothing.

Showtime for 12th Night on Friday, August 22nd is 2:00pm in lower Gyro Park at ‘Ye Olde Stone Quarry’, just above the top end of downtown Nelson’s Vernon Street only a short walk up from the Civic Theatre.

Audience members are encouraged to bring their own portable chair or blanket to this open-air, all-weather affair where picnics are welcome. Due to the brief, all-terrain entrance path, footwear appropriate for a day-hike is recommended.

Admission is by donation and all proceeds support Nelson Youth Theatre’s future endeavours.
