Nelson Search and Rescue hosts inter-regional competition this weekend at Kokanee Park

If anyone plans on getting hurt this weekend, Kokanee Park 15 kilometers east of Nelson on the North Shore would be a prime place to receive instant rescue assistance.

That is where Nelson Search and Rescue is hosting a a large inter-regional SAR exercise, beginning Friday and ending Sunday (September 5-7).

More than 100 SAR members from throughout the region will take part in take part in workshops and training.

Highlighting the weekend is the 442 squadron from Comox with a Cormorant and a Buffalo aircraft arriving for training — provided the crews are not called out on any emergency calls.

There will be a large demonstration as well as local aircraft doing hover exit training on site.

Some of the other workshops will include rope rescue, swiftwater as sell as other forms of rescue training.

SAR organizers have chosen locations that would accommodate viewing of all the activities by the public.

As well there will be public access open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (September 6).

There will be hosts to answer questions and take the public around to different activities.
