Nelson Youth Soccer teams returned with one medal as the U17 Selects took bronze at the BC Soccer Girls Provincial B Cup and Les Sinnott Memorial Boy’s Tournament this past weekend in Chilliwack and Richmond, respectively.

The 17 Selects dumped Chilliwack Attack 6-1 to claim the bronze medal.

Other results had the Nelson U13 Girls scoring a 3-0 shutout of RGSA Riot to capture fifth spot in the eight-team field. The Select finished pool play with a 1-2 record after a win over Bulkley Valley Rapids (3-1) and losses to North Shore (4-0) and Powell River (2-0).

The U15 Selects finished sixth overall after dropping a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Aldergrove Vipers.

The Selects lost to Langley (4-2) and to Chilliwack (4-0) before stopping Kootenay rival Storm from Trail/Castlegar 3-0.

Meanwhile the U14 played well, but finished eighth overall in the tournament after losing 1-0 to Terrace.

The Selects lost to Vernon (2-0) and Cowichan Valley (1-0) before drawing against host Chilliwack Attack (1-1).

It appeared a goal by Abby Beauchamp 10 minutes into the contest would be enough to secure a win for the Select against the Attack. But the host team scored in the final seconds of the game to pull out the draw.

In Richmond, Terrace pulled out a 3-2 win over the U18 Boys Selects to drop the Nelson squad into sixth spot in the standings.

The U18 Selects finished with a 1-1-1 record, narrowly missing a medal round game after drawing against division winning Kamloops Blaze 1-1 in the final game of the round robin.

Nelson defeated Richmond 2-1 to open the tournament before losing 3-0 to CCB Elite.

In the U15 Boy’s Division, Nelson lost 3-2 to RYSA Lightning to finish sixth overall.

The Selects tied Terrace (1-1) to open the tournament before dropping a decision to Penticton (3-0). Nelson defeated Prince George (1-0) in the in final round robin game.
