Nelson RCMP has opened an investigation of theft of mail from Canada Post Offices in Slocan Park and Ymir.

In a media release Thursday, RCMP said the stolen mail was discovered inside a pickup truck following a report of a suspicious vehicle on Giveout Creek Forest Service Road  south of Nelson, on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

“Some of the mail had been burnt in a pile beside the red Dodge 3500 pickup truck,” Nelson RCMP said.

Nelson RCMP said the mail was examined forensic evidence prior to returning it to its owners.

“(The) investigation is ongoing, however, it appears that the mail had been stolen from Canada Post Offices in Slocan Park and Ymir, BC,” RCMP said.

RCMP is urging anyone that may be missing any mail or has information related to these offences, to contact the Nelson detachment at (250)-352-2156 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
