Nelson Post Office behind picket lines

Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) in Nelson joined fellow colleagues across the country on the picket line Tuesday. Nelson members began strike action at 7 a.m. along with workers in Columbia River, Nelson, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson and Fort St. John, B.C.
On the CUPW website, a media release said strike actions began at 8 a.m. local time in Moose Jaw and Saskatoon, Sask., and earlier in the day in Cobourg, Petawawa/Deep River, Fort Frances, Kapuskasing, Kenora and Smiths Falls (Tri-Town), Ont. and Weyburn, Sask.
Meanwhile, strike activity continues in the Greater Montreal Area, where it started at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29. Employees in Prince George, B.C., and in Peterborough, Ont., also remain on strike.
Employees in the Lower Mainland of B.C. and in Lloydminster, Sask., Winnipeg and Brandon, Man., Thunder Bay, Oshawa and Pickering, Ont., and ÎIes-de-la-Madeleine, Que., returned to work following CUPW’s strike activity in those locations.
Mail and parcels will not be delivered or picked up in the impacted areas while the union continues their strike activity. Canada Post continues to operate across the rest of Canada.
CUPW and the postal service have been unable to reach new collective agreements for the two bargaining units in 10 months of negotiations.
