Nelson Police respond to fight involving a knife

Nelson Police officers responded to more than 90 calls for service this past week, including a report of a fight involving a person with a knife.

The mid-day call happened on Thursday, May 12 when dispatch was notified of a fight in the 500 block of Vernon Street.

“One of the involved parties was armed with a knife but relinquished the knife prior to police arrival,” the NPD media release explained.

“Members attended and identified both parties who knew each other and were also both known to police.”

Nelson Police said no injuries resulted from the altercation.

However, police said a 39-year-old male was arrested during the incident.

Nelson Police said the man, who was released on conditions and to appear in court on June 21, 2022, was also found to have outstanding warrants out of Trail.

Man arrested following theft from local restaurant

On Friday, May 13, 2022, at 3:26 p.m., NPD members arrested a man following a theft of a painting from a local restaurant in the 300 block of Victoria Street.

Nelson Police said the male was apprehended by staff and was found to also be responsible for a mischief in the area just prior to the theft.

Nelson Police said the male is known to officers and was released with conditions and to appear in court on June 21, 2022.

Early morning theft of Nelson business

On Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 4:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of an alarm at a business in the 700 block of Front Street.

Officers discovered that the business had been broken into and items as well as cash were stolen.

“Police are requesting the public’s assistance from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the event, have dash cam footage or who may have information regarding the break in,” Nelson Police said.
