Nelson Police reported very little crime during the Canada Day 2015 festivities in and around the city Wednesday.

Nelson Police Department Sergeant Corey Hoy said staff faced minimal challenges throughout the day.

“There were several alcohol pour outs during the festivities and minimal drug use was observed,” Hoy said in a media release.

“During the lead up to the fireworks display there was minimal boat / marine traffic and no infractions involving open liquor were observed.

“Marine 1 (Nelson Police Department) checked approximately 15 vessels during the evening.”

Hoy said two verbal warnings were issued for failure to wear PFD’s on board vessels during navigation.

Approximately 30-40 boats were observed during the fireworks and no contraventions of safety perimeter infractions or unruly behaviour were noted.

The Nelson Police Department would like to thank the public and watercraft users for a safe and enjoyable Canada Day.
