Nelson Police report a cougar sighting in Fairview Sunday

Nelson Police is advising the public of a cougar sighting in the 300 block of Sixth Street at approximately 11:40 a.m. Sunday.

Acting Sergeant Matt Caldwell said at the time of the sighting the cougar was not reportedly acting aggressive. 

“The cougar was last seen walking towards the wooded area behind the 200 block of View Street,” Caldwell said.

“Nelson Police attended the area but were unable to locate the cougar.”
 
Nelson Police reminds residents using the Great Northern Rail Trail and surrounding area to be vigilant of their surroundings and contact police of any similar sightings.
 
Caldwell said BC Conservation Service has been notified.
