Nelson police deal with an increase in alcohol related calls

Nelson Police notice that some of the public just don’t get the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol after officers saw an increase in impaired driving in recent days.
During road side check stops, those drivers had their vehicles seized and licenses suspended Nelson Police Department said a media release Tuesday.
In addition, NPD officers observed and received several calls for service in relation to persons consuming alcohol and drugs in the downtown core.
“The Nelson Police Department would like to remind the public that consuming alcohol in public is not permitted and those who choose to do so can face a fine of $230 under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act,” the NPD release said.
“In addition, being intoxicated in public is also not permitted and those found to be intoxicated could face a fine of $115 and/or arrest under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act.”
The Nelson Police Department would like to remind those individuals partaking in activities involving alcohol to ensure they have a safe method of transportation home.
Man arrested for public intoxication, causing a disturbance
Just after the lunchtime period Monday (July 31) at 1:11 p.m., NPD dispatched received a call of an intoxicated male in the downtown core.
When police arrived, in the 400 block of Baker Street, the man was deemed to be intoxicated.
However, when the man saw police approaching, he began to walk away while yelling at police.
“The male was stopped by police and was eventually arrested for public intoxication and causing a disturbance,” the NPD release said. “The male was transported to cells and later released on conditions and additional charges for his conduct in cells with a future court date.”
Man spends time in cells for possession, causing a disturbance, mischief
Sunday (July 30) at approximately 10:11 am, NPD received a call for service from a local downtown business regarding an unwanted male.
The male was found locked bathroom and observed to be injecting drugs.
“The male was subsequently arrested for possession, causing a disturbance, and mischief,” the NPD release said.
“The male was transported to cells where he was later released on conditions with a future court date.”
