Nelson Minor Hockey recognizes players, coaches during Awards Banquet

Nelson Minor Hockey capped off an amazing season both on and off the ice by hosting its annual Awards Banquet at the Selkirk College Tenth Street Campus.

Once again former National Hockey League star Mike Laughton saluted the winners with past history of the major award contributors from Nelson Minor Hockey history books.

Some of the award winners included Sebastien Conne-Correnti winning the Barry Pearce Memorial and Max Jean taking home the John Reichardt Memorial, both awards for Atom Player who displays team dedication, good sportsmanship, desire and love of the game.

Other awards included, Owen Ditzel winning the Todd Matheson Memorial; Xavier Tinholt the Walter Clarkson memorial, Liam Ingram the Alf Baker award; Kaleb Percival the Marc Severyn Memorial for the Bantam Rep player showing outstanding skills, desire and leadership.

Noah Quinn of the Bantam Reps won the Mike Laughton Sr. Award, Tyler Lake the R.C. Wright Memorial; Connor Comishin the Barry Geist trophy; and Shayla Elias the Baker Street Esso Award.

The Sarge Sammartino award for the top junior and senior officials were won by Jaden Dyck and Lorne Anderson, respectively.

Weston McBeath (Atom), Mitchell Erickson (Peewee), Joe Davidson (Bantam) and Hailey Elias (Midget) were recipients of the Jackson Hole Three "A" award.

This award for Athletics, Academics and Achievement is presented to the player in each division displaying excellence in leadership and dedication on and off the ice, especially in the classroom.

Pete Quinn of the Nelson Bantam Leafs that finished second overall as the recent BC Hockey Bantam Tier III Championship hosted in Nelson was presented with the Ted Hargreaves coaching award while Cam Paterson took the Robert Jeffs participation and dedication in advancing minor hockey in Nelson honour.

Esso Medal of Achievement awards for most improve, most dedicated and most sportsmanlike went to Cash Linnen, Dax Dewar, Sawan Bharba, Quinn Wilkinson, Levi Konken and Ryder Nash in the Atom Division.

In Peewee House, winners included Jesse Chochinsov, Tyson Hutt and Leif Pool.

Bantam House winners were Rowan Nickason, Pax Arrowsmith and Nathan Bernhardt.

Bantam Rep were Dylan Mowery, Rhett Hamilton and Simon Forrester.

Midget House winners were Noah Marsh, Justin Anderson, Brett Carr, Bryce Winters, Blair Sookro and Alex Laing.

During the ceremony, Nelson Minor Hockey presented Laughton and Bill McDonnell with lifetime memberships for Nelson Minor Hockey.

During the evening, Nelson Minor Hockey recognized the achievements of the Nelson Leafs winning the West Kootenay Midget House Championship and Bantam Leafs capturing the Silver Medal at the BC Hockey Bantam Tier III Championship. The Leafs lost a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Mission in the Championship Game.
