It’s been said a team always wants to win the last game.

The Nelson Midget Rep Leafs accomplished the feat Sunday, blasting Surrey 9-1 in the consolation round of the Castlegar Minor Hockey Tournament in the Sunflower City.

Zack Friedenberger led the Nelson attack scoring four times.

Dylan Whiffen, Matthew Brind’Amour, Logan Hascarl, Keaton Roche and A.J. Hughes added singles for Nelson.

The Reps led 2-1 after one period and 5-1 after two before exploding for four goals in the third.

Nelson opened the tournament Friday dropping a 8-3 decision to Spokane.

Matthew Brind’Amour, Liam Butterfield and Lincoln Rosenblood scored for Nelson.

The Reps then dropped a 9-4 decision to South Okanagan of Oliver Saturday morning.

Friedenberger scored twice with singles going to Danny Marsden and Hughes.

Short rest did nothing for Nelson in the afternoon game Saturday as Elk Valley pounded the Reps 7-1.

Brind’Amour was the only Nelson player to get on the scoresheet.

Brayden Pompu and Ben Kelsch shared the netminding during the weekend.
