Nelson man charged for possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

A Nelson man is scheduled to appear in court in April for or possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose following an incident in the downtown core early Sunday (February 22) morning.

Nelson Police dispatched received a 9-1-1 call for officers to attend an intoxicated male shortly after midnight Sunday.

When officers arrived they observed the 19-year-old man had a concealed knife in the jacket pocket.

The male was directed with verbal commands to place the knife on the ground. 

The male was initially complied; producing two knives he placed on the ground. 

The man was then directed on multiple occasions to back away from the weapons and he refused to do so. 

The officers apprehended the male without incident. 

The man is scheduled to appear in Nelson court on April 28 charged with possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and released on strict conditions. 

Public urged to secure items in vehicles

The Nelson Police Department report a recent increase in thefts from automobiles and properties in recent days.

To help slow thefts, police would like to remind citizens to be diligent in securing their vehicles and property. 

Citizens are also strongly encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately upon being observed.
