Nelson Leafs are a team on the rise while the Princeton Posse continue to spiral down.

Nelson won its fifth straight Kootenay International Junior Hockey League game, outlasting the Posse 4-1 Saturday night at the NDCC Arena.

The loss was the ninth straight for the Posse.

Ironically, the last win for Princeton came in September against the Leafs.

However, Nelson was not going to allow the Posse two wins against the Green and White this season.

Austin Lindsay, with goal and an assist, and Maximilan Daerendinger each had two points to lead the Leafs to the victory.

Kyle Chernenkoff, Brendan Smith and Tyler Garcia also scored for the Leafs, which held period leads of 1-0 and 4-1.

Nelson dominated the Posse for most of the game, out shooting the visitors 45-25, including a 14-7 and 21-12 advantage in the first two periods.

Nelson, 10-5 on the season for third spot in the Murdoch Division, scored twice on the power play.

Patrick Ostermann had an easy night to register the win in goal for the Leafs.

After playing seven times at home during the month of October, the Leafs take to the road beginning Friday in Armstrong against North Okanagan Knights.

Saturday the Leafs face Kelowna Chiefs before concluding the road trip in Summerland against the Steam.
