Nelson Hydros said some areas remain without power following Monday’s massive thunderstorm that downed trees and debris in the region in record time.

Nelson Hydro in a media release said the areas in Upper Longbeach, Carlson Rd., Harrop, Beggs Rd., Rogers Rd., Upper Balfour, Johnson Rd., Ymir Rd., Tagham, Sproule Cr., Carleson Rd., and most of Blewett Road had power restored Tuesday night.

Although Nelson Hydro said power was lost in Harrop again at this morning to an unknown reason.

“We are still experiencing small pockets of outages within these areas, but in the main all customers in these areas are back in service,” said the Nelson Hydro release.

“Customers in these areas that have no service should call in to ensure we are aware they are still out.”

Environment Canada called for the thunderstorm alert Monday saying the storm could produce strong winds, dime-sized hail or heavy rains.

From Castlegar to Proctor and Balfour north of Nelson, huge trees that have been standing for decades came toppling down due to the high winds.

The following locations remain out of service. Nelson Hydro continues to work on restoring service ASAP for these areas with our in-house crews and five contractor crews..

We estimate that approximately 90-120 customers are still out.

  • Grohman Community
  • Saboda Community
  • Mt. Nelson
  • Portions of Green Rd (Queens Bay)
  • Wharf Rd (Balfour)
  • Torin Rd.

“There are many homes that have sustained customer owned service entrance damage,” the release added.

“They are already, or will be disconnected as we come upon them. These services will need electrician repairs before we are able to re-connect them. Customers should be aware that if their service entrance is damaged, they will need to have the damage repaired by qualified electricians before we can restore service.”
