Nelson Fire Department called to vehicle fire Monday

Nelson firefighters were called to deal with a vehicle fire at the intersection of Kootenay and Observatory Streets Monday night.

The call came in at 7:45 p.m. to dispatch of a vehicle fire resulting in both on-duty members and one engine responding.

Nelson Police, arriving first on the scene, secured the area and made sure the occupants of the vehicle were safe.

Upon arrival, the firefighters extinguished the fire and dealt with exposure protection of a second vehicle in close proximity.

The crews were able to protect the second vehicle from any damage. The fire was extinguished quickly using approximately 150 gallons of water.

The fire appears to have originated in the engine compartment.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. All occupants of the vehicle were out of the vehicle upon arrival.  Damage is estimated at $2000.

The cause of the fire is unknown because of the damage to the vehicle.
