Nelson emergency services respond to electrical hazard

No one was injured after hydro lines were dislodged from poles on the Victoria Street corridor of Nelson Friday afternoon.
The call came in at 1:25 p.m. of lines down at Victoria and Hall Streets said Nelson Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Mike Daloise in a media release.
“Upon arrival of the first crew, two hydro lines were observed down on the ground,” said Daloise, adding both on duty members responded immediately along with two additional members.
“The first arriving crew’s primary objective was to ensure the safety of the public by creating a safe perimeter area around the lines.”
Daloise said Nelson City Police provided assistance by maintaining the perimeter from vehicles and pedestrian traffic.
“Shortly after arrival it was determined that an additional location on Gyro Park Road also had lines down,” Daloise said.
Nelson Hydro crews were called to isolate the area before completing the line repairs and re-energizing the lines.
“Unfortunately this took a bit of time due to the damage done to the lines and the multiple locations,” Daloise said.
Daloise said at this time it is unclear what caused the damage and Nelson Hydro crews are investigating.
“No injuries were reported as a result of this incident thanks largely in part to the quick response by Nelson Hydro and the Nelson City Police” Daloise said.
