Nelson Boxers deliver results at Fight Night VII

A packed Rod and Gun Club was treated to an impressive evening of amateur boxing Saturday as the Nelson Boxing Club hosted Fight Night VII.

Fight fans watched a dozen bouts featuring national-level fighters from Calgary, Spokane, Kelowna, Victoria, Cranbrook and Nanaimo, including the main event where Nelson’s Ryan Lewis outlasted Donny Cornelius of Victoria.

Cornelius, fighting out of the Forge Gym in Victoria, overcame on after a slow start to push the current provincial champion from the Nelson Boxing Club, Lewis, in the 165-pound elite novice bout. Saturday's bout was the first ever fight for Cornelius.

Brett Adams of Nelson made quick work of Nanaimo’s Pratiysush Sharma in the 185-pound Elite Novice, forcing the ring official to stop the bout after three standing counts.

Adams took the bout to the Island fighter, knocking his head gear off which caused a stoppage of the match.

Adams kept up the constant pressure, which energized the crowd after the final assault that forced stoppage before the first round concluded.

In other action:

Nelson boxer Riel Martinez scored a unanimous decision over Ayde Meredth of Diamond Boxing Club in Calgary in the Junior Main Event, 118-pound Jr. C Open Division.

Tom Jung of Cranbrook earned a split decision victory over Marik Prisciak of Nelson in the 195-pound Jr. C Novice Division. The two fighters had nothing left when the final bell sounded, but the two show respective for each other following the bout.

Sonny Meredith of Diamond Boxing Club was overwhelmed by Stryder Sutton of Nelson in the 80-pound Jr. B Open Division.

Elwin Langford of the Nelson Boxing Club scored a unanimous decision over Dawson Canning in the 140-pound Jr. C Novice Division fight.

In exhibition bouts, 2019 National Silver Medallist Leah Eberle of Nelson battled Ella Meredith of the Diamond Boxing Club in Calgary in the 114-pound Jr. B division, Makalu Babott of Nelson took on Conner Ferrier of Cranbrook in the 100-pound Jr. B event and Caeden Rennie of Nelson opened the card against Jarron Ewasiuk of Cranbrook in the 60-pound Funbox category.
