Nelson Baseball Association is the latest organized sports group to cancel its season due to coronavirus COVID-19.

In a statement on the NBA website, the president Dwane Sorenson said “it is with a heavy heart that the Nelson Baseball Association has made the decision to cancel our Spring Baseball Season.”

“With the continued uncertainty around the timelines to get scheduled and back on the Nelson Fields, as well as waiting for guidelines from BC Baseball as to what baseball could look like when we do get back, we have run out of time to make the season happen,” Sorenson added.

Refunds are being processed to those who registered for the season.

Sorenson said NBA is planning to offer a fall ball season from September to the middle of October.

Sorenson said the NBA should have information posted by the middle of August.

He said minor division players will play at Lions Park and major division players, and older, will play at Queen Elizabeth provided the completion of the major renovation on that field this summer.

Meanwhile, Nelson Youth Soccer said on its website the anticipated Return to Play Plan set for May 15th, has been delayed and the the suspension of soccer activity has been extended for the short term.

“We understand that everyone wants to get back on the fields and play the sport we all love; BC Soccer wants to as well,” said Jason Elligott, Executive Director of BC Soccer.

“However, we must do so in the most responsible way possible. We also want to ensure that our members, affiliated clubs and the volunteer (and paid) individuals that lead them are aware of the potential risks with decisions they make.”

At this time during a normal season, Nelson Youth Soccer would have been in full swing with both House and Rep programs running at full capacity.
